Solar Heating

BTU: British thermal unit.
How long it takes one pound of water to rise one degree per hour. Heating and cooling are all based on BTU. There are 12,000 btu per one ton of air conditioning.

SEER: Seasonal energy efficiency rating.
This rating was developed by the manufacturers to standize the industry rating of equipment. They take the amount of watts used between the indoor and outdoor equipment and divide it by the btu of cooling. Next they divide it by the average run time of cooling in an area to provide an explanation on how efficient the equipment is. At this present time 13 SEER is the minimum rate allowed.

COP: Coefficient of operation.
The ratio of energy supplied to operate the heat pump vs. the amount of energy discharged.
